Wolfe Releasing has acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to the dark comedy “Petunia,” which features Thora Birch, Brittany Snow, Tobias Segal, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Christine Lahti and Michael Urie. The specialty distributor plans a theatrical release in 2013 followed by releases on VOD and DVD.
Directed by Ash Christian, who wrote the script with Theresa Bennett, the film focuses on a dysfunctional New York family whose relationships are further complicated when one of the sons meets a married, but gay, neighbor. Christian and Birch produced with Jordan Yale Levine.

“This is our second release with the incredibly talented writer-director Ash Christian,” said Wolfe president Maria Lynn. “We loved working on his previous film ‘Mangus!’ and our audience really responds to the unique cinematic universe he creates. With the added bonus of its stellar cast, we’re really looking forward to the reception ‘Petunia’ receives.”
Lynn negotiated the deal with Ronna Wallace of Eastgate Pictures.
Wolfe has recently released “Undertow,” “Mosquita y Mari” and “Gayby.”
