Come Feel the Flow!

Happy Birthday BNFYoga family!

It's been five years that we have been breathing and flowing together, Jai!  I feel like a proud YogaMama watching my 3rd child grow & flourish.  Manny & I are forever grateful to all the teachers, Karmis, and students who continue to support the growth of our Yoga hOMe.   Let's keep on Down Doggin' together as ONE!

With this months focus being on Aparigraha and in celebrating our 5th Year Practicing Yoga together, I think this quote from Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is just perfect. "Yoga is achieved through persistent practice and non-attachment".

Aparigraha, is the 5th Yama (self-restraint) is the practice of non-attachment or non-possessiveness.  Graha means "to grasp" and pari means "things." Aparigraha means "not grasping things".    Holding on to people or things too tightly can only bring pain or sadness.  It is only human to want to hold on to the people that have inspired you as a teacher or student.   When someone or something brings you such joy & abundance you want to hold on tight and never let go.  To live peacefully we need to loosen our grips and allow everything to come and go.  prepares us to find comfort in Letting Go.

August Pose of the Month
Natarajasana
(Dancer's Pose)
Shana & Leah

With all the Celebrations at BNFYoga this month, these Leo Sisters wanna Dance.

"Time flies in the summer time, dancing through the warm sun and enjoying the lovely fruits of the season, it seems only fitting we approach the month of august with the same flare.

This month we focus on developing the true essence of The Lord of the Dance pose, also known as Natarajasana. Nataraja is another name for Shiva, the Lord of the dance, whose cosmic dance is the creation and destruction of the world.   This a dual action posture which helps develop focus and balance, embodies the full circle of life,  the balance of effort and ease, mindfulness and release.   This standing balance posture serves as a back bend and heart opener while targeting hips and opening shoulders. "

We hope you have enjoyed sharing your Pose of the Month pics, keep sharing.   Let's show our love of Yoga Asana (poses) by taking pics throughout the month at the studio or any place you feel like striking a pose, and post on FaceBook tagging @Breathe N Flow Yoga or on Instagram at #BNFYoga #poseofthemonth.

Workshops and Events
Inversions & Transitions with Jenya

This workshop is for the beginner and intermediate level students. We will cover in detail the proper ways of alignment and transitions into and from Headstand variations A, B, and possibly other, more advanced options. We will apply the same principles to learning the Forearm Stand and Hand Stand. The workshop will include basic strength and core conditioning as well as partnering up and assisting each other to further develop an understanding of these postures.
We will cover "jumping through" and "jumping back" through the Vinyasa flow, focusing on safety, proper alignment, weight distribution and the use of props, along with building the correct structure to prevent the risk of injury in the future.
All levels, especially beginners are welcome. For the more advanced, there will be options to play around, such as press up variations, but if you can do a straight leg press smiling, I would save your time and money for a more advanced workshop in the near future :)

Breathe & Yin - with Shana Rae

In this workshop we will learn and practice various pranayama exercises while exploring the body through gentle flow and yin postures. This workshop will help students cultivate stillness in the body and mind, and serves as an Introduction to a more formal meditation practice.

Yin yoga focuses on the connective tissues of the body with an emphasis on opening the hips and spine, as well as clearing the energetic channels of the body known as meridians.  Yin yoga is a practice of long-held, deep postures that help restore joint mobility and release tension in the body.  In the Yoga tradition, prana, or breath, is said to connect the outer layers of our being which include the body and the mind, with our innermost layers of wisdom and love.  Some of the benefits of a yin practice include: Lowering stress levels, regulating and balancing energy and the release of fascia throughout the body.

This workshop is designed for all levels of practitioners.  Modifications and props will be provided as needed for your own level of flexibility and practice.
