Australian Adventurer of the Year at Northcote Library.

Join us at Northcote Library on Tuesday November 14th at 6.45 to hear Michael Smith talk about his trip around the world in his tiny flying boat. With limited flying experience he faced wild weather and some scary situations. Book online at Darebin Libraries.
Below is a  very small sample of the new books which have been flooding into the shop in time for Christmas.

FYI. We are open 10-3 on Cup Day, 7th November.

Read all about a man's adventures as he retraces the journey of the first flying boats to Australia from the UK. You can meet Michael at the library (see above) and he will sign the books for you. $35
Matt Preston is the master of the quick and tasty approach to cooking. While he obviously loves his food and cooking for his family, he doesn't want to spend hours preparing meals. In a lot of the recipes, the 30 minutes refers to preparation time and the cooking times vary from 30 minutes to several hours. It's all about easy and tasty food without dozens of ingredients. $40
Whatever you think of Kevin Rudd, he was at the forefront of a change of government and some new policy directions. The book isn't just about him, but goes into detail on lots of policies and politics and puts some of it into historical context. This is the first of a two volume biography, so the guy has a lot to say! It is a big hardback for $45
Mrs M is a lovely looking book and is an imagined story of the relationship between Mrs Elizabeth Macquarie, wife of Governor Lachlan Macquarie, and Francis Greenaway, the convict architect. Set in the early days of the colony it is both a love story and a portrayal of the politics and intrigues of the times. The writing is terrific and I really enjoyed this one. Hardback, $30
Two of Australia's great soldiers in the one book but they were both much more than soldiers. Roland Perry brings their stories to life. Paperback, $35
Parts of the story of the Burke & Wills expedition defy belief with how ill prepared and unknowing they were about what lay ahead of them. Peter Fitzsimons tells the story in his usual rollicking style. Hardback, $50
Chris Masters is a well known journalist who spent many years with the ABC, famously on Four Corners. This is his exploration of the grueling and difficult campaign in Afghanistan. $35
Tony Martin has written an hilarious tale inspired by some real life letters to a local newspaper. It's all about people getting the wrong end of the stick and/or just making things up and then the rumour mill going into overdrive. When a shock jock radio host gets onto the case mayhem ensues. While it is very funny. it also points out how some daft ideas can have serious consequences. It is a bit of a hoot. $30
Local author Fran Cusworth has just published her latest book. Fran explores family and relationships really well and she is an author we love to support. Paperback, $25
One of the many previous Miles Franklin winner's has a new book out. This is quite a hefty one and Alex Miller is calling it autobiographical fiction. It's on my reading pile. Paperback, $33
Jimmy Barnes continues the story he started in Working class Boy. Tough and inspiring, a good one for the fans. Working Class Boy is now available in paperback for $33. The new book is in hardback and is $50
Harry Bosch is back working as a voluneteer on cold cases. He has to deal with a case from his old working days in the LAPD and a convicted killer claims Harry set him up. The cases are interesting and Harry is complicated. Michael Connelly is a reliable writer to spend some time with. $33
The above are just a small sample of the books we have in store. October & November are always big months for new releases, so we are very well stocked at the moment! And remember to ask if you can't find what you are after or need some suggestions.
Happy reading.
