Sign says Pbody's is closed

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — The Clarksville River District has apparently lost a restaurant that was hoped to help anchor more retail development near Liberty Park and the Marina.

While a formal announcement has not been made, the marquee sign fronting Pbody's says it is closed, and its previous web and social media sites can't be found.

With the move, the original Clarksville location of Pbody's follows a similar closing of a Pbody's under the same ownership in Springfield months earlier.

Perry Brock and Nick Harrington, owners of "Pbodys, the Great American Grill," had celebrated the one-year anniversary of their grand opening on Riverside Drive in Clarksville on Aug. 25 and were closing in on two years in business.

The sit-down restaurant with a sports bar had specialized in American cuisine, offering hand-cut steaks, pulled pork, baby back ribs, salmon, trout and a selection of hamburgers, among other items.

The Pbody’s name originated from Brock’s nickname, given while he and Harrington worked in the corporate world together.

In preceding weeks, Brock had made impassioned pleas on social media asking Clarksville-area residents to support his home-owned business.

The downtown and riverfront revitalization group, Two Rivers Company, weighed in later Wednesday with its own regrets.

"Unfortunately, we are losing another good restaurant in our downtown and Riverside area," said TRC Executive Director Brenda Kelley.

"We will continue to look for new restaurants to recruit to Clarksville. A good, strong residential market and job base is needed in our downtown in order for restaurants and retail to want to locate here. We all need to work together to create a vibrant downtown where people want to live, work, shop and open businesses," Kelley said.
