More than 92,000 people in Assam have been affected by the floods wreaking havoc in six districts – Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Cachar. The Tarun Gogoi-led government has called in the Army, National Disaster Response Force and its counterpart in the state to help deal with the crisis, reported The Indian Express.

The floods caused by tributaries of the Brahmaputra river, Burhidihing and Disang, have destroyed at least 200 villages displacing around 74,000 people in Sivasagar and Charaideo alone. Sivasagar deputy commissioner Virendra Mittal said that 3,500 people have been shifted to 31 relief camps. In Dima Hasao district, several labourers were feared washed away by flash floods while quarrying stones near the Jatinga river. Road and railway communication to the Barak Valley in southern Assam have been destroyed as well.

In Arunachal Pradesh, 19 people have already been killed in landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. Anjaw district in eastern part of the state remained cut off for the fourth day on Monday due to landslides. Chief Minister Kalikho Pul said he has released Rs 2 crore for restoration work in Tawang district. This includes relief to the families of people killed in the floods in the last four days. Nagaland's Mon district has also been cut off due to landslides, and at least 200 houses in the state have been destroyed. The government has put the Border Roads Organisation to work to restore the road links.
