Further Information

"Raindamage – the album” is a labor of love between composers Valgeir Sigurðsson, Hlynur Aðils Vilmarsson, Úlfur Hansson and ensemble Nordic Affect.

The album will be produced by Valgeir Sigurðsson himself at Greenhouse Studios in Reykjavík and features both acoustic and electronic works which will explore music in the context of nature.

Nordic Affect was Reykjavík’s Ensemble of 2014 and one of the many projects they embarked on that year was a collaboration with composers Valgeir, Úlfur and Hlynur. The performance was part of the Reykjavík Arts Festival which took place at Roni Horn’s stunning Library of Water in Stykkishólmur.

The musical results were
'Raindamage' by Valgeir, [:n:\] by Hlynur and'Þýð' by Úlfur. The word 'Þýð' refers to an Icelandic description of the weather and translates as "favourable", "soft" or "gentle".

After performing these beautiful pieces to a warm and welcoming audience, we stepped out into the midnight sun and realised that this was not the end but rather the beginning of a journey. After some reflection and discussion we decided to produce an album where the three composers (all of whom are active as electronic artists) would continue exploring music in the context of nature and create further exciting responses to last year's performance.

"Raindamage – the album” will therefore bring you some fresh sounds, both of the acoustic and electronic variety, that all reflect on music and it's connection with nature, as well as our own inner state of emotion.

At the moment Hlynur, Úlfur and Valgeir are busy working on the electronic components of the album. The acoustic recordings with Nordic Affect will take place in November 2015 at the fantastic facilities of Greenhouse Studios which means we can look forward to launching the album in 2016!

We’re looking to raise funds to help cover costs of:
1. Recording the acoustic works.
2. Editing.
3. Mixing and mastering.
4. Cover artwork design and printing.

This is a project we are passionate about and would love to share with the world. We invite you to join in the adventure by supporting our project for which we'll be eternally grateful!
