If you’re not familiar with Costco, it is a membership-only warehouse well-known for selling items like bulk food products and home appliances. When it comes to their food items, you can find everything from bulk canned vegetables, to bulk canned beans, to bulk sauces and spices, Costco’s shelves are lined with products to stock your kitchen.

Recently, Costco has gained recognition for one of its items that is surprisingly almost entirely plant-based! The Nutristore Premium Food Kit is a hearty and nutritious product that comes with 600 gallon-size cans of food like canned beans, dehydrated vegetables, and freeze-dried fruit. It does cost $6,000, but the expense might just be worth it for those who don’t enjoy weekly or monthly grocery shopping trips. All-in-all, it comes with enough food to feed four people for an entire year on a 2,000 calorie daily diet. One of the benefits of this kit is that the freeze-dried foods are meant to last for up to 25 years.

Inside the kit, there are a variety of plant-based foods like hard white wheat, white rice, pasta, lentils, black beans, pinto beans, textured vegetable protein (TVP), freeze-dried fruits and vegetables, and dehydrated vegetables. Each of these items contains nutrients crucial to a healthy diet. Additionally, their long shelf lives make them ideal for a kit meant to last a year.

Worried about how some of these ingredients taste when they’re cooked together? The kit also comes with some salt and sugar to help add some flavor to your meals.

You don’t have to buy this $6,000 kit to start cooking with vegan plant-based ingredients like beans and lentils. Pick up a few cans at your grocery store and check out The Ultimate Guide for Cooking Perfect Beans to get started.

We also highly recommend downloading our Food Monster App, which is available for both Android and iPhone, and can also be found on Instagram and Facebook. The app has more than 8,000 plant-based, allergy-friendly recipes, and subscribers gain access to ten new recipes per day. Check it out!
