In pictures: David Beckham
England coach Fabio Capello says he will not pick David Beckham, who has 115 England caps, to play in another competitive international.
Beckham was vilified after being sent off for a petulant kick at Diego Simeone during the 1998 World Cup clash with Argentina.
Beckham made his debut with Man United in 1992, staying for 11 years. During his time there, United won the Premier League title six times and the FA Cup twice.
Beckham skippered his country in three major tournaments - the World Cups of 2002, 2006 and Euro 2004.
Beckham has sported a variety of haircuts through the years, sparking endless imitations - from his 2001 Mohawk to the once-ubiquitous Hoxton fin.
Beckham is seen here celebrating his injury time equalising goal during the World Cup qualifier against Greece at Old Trafford in Manchester in 2001. England sealed qualification after the game ended 2-2.
He received the OBE in 2003 and was described as "an ambassador for his country." He said it was the best honour he had received.
Beckham captained England on 58 occasions, tearfully relinquishing the armband after their exit from the 2006 World Cup.
After time at Manchester United and Real Madrid, Beckham crossed the Atlantic for LA Galaxy in 2007.
Beckham travelled with England to the 2010 World Cup but did not play because of injury. His agent has dismissed the prospect of the 35-year-old announcing his international retirement.
