Central Neighbourhood Association – Annual General Meeting
Board members present: Co-Chairs Matt Graham & Elizabeth Ward, Paul Copcutt, John Boddy, Rochelle Martin, Saifal Chowdhury
Absent: Allyson Wenzowski, Tim Vine, Tara Scott
Matt welcomed everyone and called the AGM to order at 7.15 pm
Community Cup
Lyndon George from Andrea Horvath’s office outlined the Community Cup day. This is being held on Sunday 23rd July at Woodlands Park, 501 Barton St E from 9 am to 5 pm.
This is a community event bringing neighbourhoods together through soccer and is hosted by Empowered Squared.

Matt then updated the meeting on recent and upcoming neighbourhood events;
Central Walk/Janes Walk
Central Neighbourhood volunteers conducted a follow up walk as part of the Janes Walk event. About 20 people attended a walk focused on housing and transportation, past, present and future.
Central Park Clean Up
The annual park clean up was held on Saturday May 14th and collected a lot less garbage than last year due to less long term garbage being present in the park.
It was suggested that the weekly parks and recreation clean up could be more thorough in an umber of areas and this was conveyed to Jason Farr and had already been reported.
100 in 1 Day
On Saturday June 4th between 10 am and 12 noon the CNA will be doing a book give away outside Acclamation on James St North as part of the 100 in 1 Day initiative.
Open Streets
CNA will have a table at the Open Streets on James St Norht on Sunday June 19th from 11 am to 6 pm.
Bike Draw
The bike won by CNA as a prize for last years park clean up is being raffled off for funds for the association. Tickets will be sold at the AGM, 100 in 1 Day and Open streets. The bike will be assembled with the help of local kids at Open Streets and each helper will receive a free entry ticket. Winner to be announced June 21st.
Central Park Re-Development
The plan was made available for viewing and Phase 2 Environmental studies are next.
Ward 2 Councillor Jason Farr
Jason Farr was present to update the neighbourhood on various issues as follows:
Plan Local
This is the new version of participatory budgeting with the idea to direct $1 million in funds per year within the Ward on different topics each year.
For 2016 the topic is safe streets. Neighbours are invited to suggest locations for safer streets and then most viable projects will be chosen for voting on. Final choices to be made and voted on by June 30th.

LRT
It is expected a council vote on this will not happen before September.
It was proposed CNA send a letter of support to council and The Hamilton Spectator.
Pier 7,8,9 Development Plan
This was approved by council last week and should be shovel ready for 2018.
Local Development
- BBQ Chicken store to open on corner of Main & Hess.
- All Saints Church on the corner of King & Queen has applied and been granted a demolition permit.
- Bertuzzi property on Bay St North & Murray has been sold. No further details.
- Mission Services on James St North & Barton are planning to erect an aesthetic solution for the open area that tends to be a daily gathering area.
- Can in the past year have had presentations from developers for proposed condo buildings on the corner of Stuart & MacNab on site of Robbinex building and also on the corner of King & Caroline on the site of the kitchen fixtures and supplies store next to A&W.
Non-Plan Local Safe Streets Initiatives
- Wider corner poles will be placed on corners of Bay St North with both Shaeffe and Colbourne to slow traffic turning off of Bay.
- Speed bumps to be placed on Park St N between Shaeffe and Mulberry, Colbourne east of Bay, two on Hess North and one or two on Murray St.
- Bike lane on Bay St from Aberdeen to Waterfront is half complete, 2nd half awaiting municipal/council approval.
Jason discussed the option of the whole of Central having 40 kmh limits on all non major streets throughout the neighbourhood and this was endorsed by the majority at the meeting.
Matt & Elizabeth thanked Jason for the updates and all those attending.
