Why this petition matters

Started by The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation

The rusty patched bumble bee is an essential pollinator that contributes to our food security and healthy ecosystems, but their existence is under attack. Without pollinators, many of the fruits, vegetables, and flowers we all love and depend on are at risk. The US Fish and Wildlife Service must act to protect the rusty patched bumble bee, immediately!

These bees have disappeared from nearly 90% of their historic range likely due to threats related to pesticides, diseases from commercially managed bees, habitat loss, and climate change. The rusty patched bumble bee was once common from the Upper Midwest to the eastern seaboard, but no more. Now, these iconic native pollinators are restricted to small, isolated populations and are risk of extinction.

The rusty patched bumble bee plays a complex role in our ecosystems, but the first step in saving it is clear: these bees need the protection of the U.S. Endangered Species Act.

Please join us in urging the US Fish and Wildlife Service to add the rusty patched bumble bee as an endangered species under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. Without protection, this species may be lost forever.
