BEN BOLT, Texas – After a report from concerned neighbors, the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office recused 17 Shih Tzu puppies Friday.

An arrest warrant was issued for Claudio Domingo Barrera after deputies discovered the puppy mill.

The dogs were kept in a doubled stacked chicken coop wrapped with chicken wire with an aluminum floor and roof. Rusty nails and pieces of the chicken wire sticking out everywhere. The dogs were left without adequate food and water.

The dogs are being kept by the county for now. They expect to put them up for adoption after they are nursed back to health.

The investigation is ongoing pending charges for Mr. Barrera.
