Terra Madre SA sells organic and ethically farmed produce on behalf of local small farmers in the form of a weekly box scheme. We make contracts with the farmers in advance – guaranteeing to purchase their produce at fair prices and thus giving them some income security so that they can continue their vital work.
Customers wanting to be part of this process must sign up as members, pay for their boxes in advance and can then collect or we deliver. It is that easy.
Who are the farmers?
In order to supply their produce, the small farmers need to have achieved high levels of quality and need to be farming according to strict organic principles. Training and support from us and others is helping to bring more and more micro-farmers into our supply chain.
Who are our customers/members?
People wanting to follow this socially and environmentally responsible way of obtaining healthy, organic produce.
Options at the moment include varied amounts of the following:
Farm-fresh, free-range, grass-fed milk (raw or pasteurised)
Locally made organic cheese, cream or yoghurt
Free-range eggs
Organic, seasonal fruit, herbs and vegetables
Certified beef, free range lamb, free range chicken, farmed Tilapia from ethical farms
A variety of fermented foods
All members orders can be altered for Banting, Vegan, Vegetarian options (once we have them)
Orders can be paid quarterly or monthly in advance via EFT or card in our store.
How does it work?
Members complete a order form, in which they select their box size and preferred collection/delivery day (Thursday, Friday, Saturday). Once the new member has received their first invoice and made the payment (including a once-off deposit for their box), they will be added to the member list and can start receiving their weekly box of yummy organic goodies. Each week members return their box/jars and collect their new box. We credit each returned glass jar with R3 off your next order. If you decide you no longer want to be a member we credit you for your crate/box.
