RSU Offense Ignites in Doubleheader Sweep of Bacone

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The Rogers State baseball team's offense exploded for 28 total runs in a doubleheader sweep against Bacone Saturday afternoon at Muskogee High School winning 20-5 and 8-4.

GAME ONE
Caleb Kohlmeyer set a school record with five walks and came through with a three-run home run in a six-run fifth inning as RSU controlled the opening game, 20-5.

Chris Miguel drew a lead-off walk in the second before stealing both second and third bases. Zack Ashford delivered a one-out single scoring Miguel as the Cats jumped to a 1-0 lead. The margin stretched to five behind a two-out rally in the fourth inning leading to four runs. Miguel highlighted the frame with a two-run single to right center after Rodriguez had an RBI single.

RSU blew the game open posting six runs in the fifth taking advantage of three walks surrounding a pair of singles from Ashford and Jordan Garr. Kohlmeyer delivered for the second-straight day rifling a line drive over the fence in left for a three-run home run making it an 11-1 lead for the Hillcats.

The Warriors cut into the margin tallying one run in the fourth, one in the fifth, and three in the sixth, but RSU plated nine runs on just three hits in the seventh and closed out the game one victory 20-5. Starting pitcher Tyler Kruse (2-0) earned the win throwing five innings giving up only two hits.

Garr tallied four RBI on three hits as one of five players to record multi-hit performances. Kohlmeyer broke Coby Wright's walk mark of four set April 5, 2009 against Paul Quinn reaching base all six plate appearances.

GAME TWO
The Hillcats struck for an early lead, but fell stagnant in the middle innings, before rallying back to secure the doubleheader sweep, 8-4.

RSU tallied an unearned run in the top of the second getting singles from Ismael Orozco, Jason Marley, and Samuel Davison. Bacone took their first lead of the weekend home-and-home series, 3-1, on one swing of the bat as Smailit Feliz sent a three-run home run into left.

A two-out, RBI single by Garr in the fourth cut the deficit to one, 3-2, and a two-run double by Ashford in the fifth gave the Cats their advantage back. RSU added to the margin on Colton Crocker's bases-loaded walk for a 5-3 lead.

With the bases loaded again in the sixth, Orozco ripped a double to the wall in left scoring two runs and followed in the seventh posting another insurance run on Miguel's RBI double. The Hillcats closed out the twin bill sweep, 8-4, as Rusty Huber shut the door throwing the final two innings striking out four.

Rodriguez, Orozco, and Ashford all tallied a single and a double in the game counting as three of five players with two hits, while starting pitcher Josh Eclavea (2-0) picked up the win on the mound throwing five innings.

RSU (8-1 overall) return to the diamond starting an eight-game home stand Tuesday afternoon against Southeastern Oklahoma State. The non-conference tilt begins at 2 p.m. and can be found live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
