Almost everytime I post a new video I receive emails asking me how did I do this .. or how did I do that.
One of those questions is how do you manage to get an entire room into a shot using a FLIP style video camera?
By FLIP style I’m referring to the FLIP, Kodak Zi8 – basically any entry level video camera that uses a USB connection to transfer the raw video from your video camera to your computer.
For real estate professionals, home inspectors – heck anyone that shoots video inside a house you’ll definitely want to check out a simple, cheap $20 fish angle lens.
I was skeptical at first but ordered one anyway and have to say I was pleasantly surprised … especially for twenty bucks.

Thank you for the tip! I bought one of these from Hong Kong off Ebay, applied it to my Zi8 and because of the magnetic strip, it eventually pulled out my entire lens assembly, almost ruined my Zi8. I superglued the lens assembly back on and then superglued the Sunpak Wide-Angle lens set that Mark recommends from HDhat. I can screw on and screw off my wide-angle lens when needed. I have owned the Kodak Zi8 for about 3 months now and I love it. Its easy to use but stay away from the Kodak software it is not user friendly.

The only thing is that it reminds me of the days of early virtual tours. I always hated that look.

It’s a great entry level vid-cam BUT not PC friendly because it shoost to .mov
You need a third party software to conert the videos files to something PC friendly.
That aside it truly is a great little video camera.

I LOVE my Zi8 and a whole lot more now with Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10 Platinum Pro Pack, which improves working with Zi8’s .mov raw video files. In version 9, my voice wasn’t syncing right with the video even with the fix Bill Myers (guerillabill) YouTube channel recommends.
I guess if I would have left that lens on the Zi8 and not removed it (ever), it wouldn’t have pulled my lens assembly off. I’m very pleased with the Sunpak wide-angle lens and it doesn’t have the fish lens look in the videos. And just so you are aware the FLIP and the Kodak Zi8 both work fantastic on a MAC TOO!!! We really need to start the “I’m a Mac and I’m a PC” video series soon!!! Because we need to do it before you buy your first Mac, and that is only a short distance in the future after I get a hold of you and shake some sense in your head!

Hi Michael, I try to present 1 minute video updates of local subdivisions and these videos index for years based on the names of subdivisions. I’ve only owned Sony Vegas Mov. Studio 10 for 1 week now and have created these 2 videos below with Zi8 using Audio Technica Pro 24 mic below. I use the Pro 24 because I like to be at the front entrance, which is noisy competing with auto noises.
