Discover Scuba Diving in El Nido - PADI First Diving Experience Program

Are you willing to discover a whole new world? To feel how it’s like to be weightless and breathe underwater? You can do it in El Nido with the PADI Discover Scuba Diving (aka DSD or Resort Diving). This program is designed for the people who want to get a first diving experience without completing a whole Open Water Diver course in El Nido.

This recreational diving program is opened to everyone over the age of 10 and only requires you to be in a reasonably good physical health. While following it, you will discover the basis of scuba diving, and go on with 3 separate dives in a day: usually, 1 in confined water and 2 in open water.

The Discover Scuba Diving is a chance to discover new sensations in a weightless world, and to see the marine wildlife with your own eyes. This is a new and exciting experience to have in El Nido, and maybe the first of many, many more dives for you!

Get Prepared For Some Serious Fun!

Get a PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience in El Nido

The PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience includes both theory and practice.

Even though it isn’t a certification course, it will get you to learn the basics of breathing and moving underwater. The program starts at least an evening before getting in the water, with a short booklet or video course you’ll have to go through on your own.

In the morning of your Discover Scuba Diving experience, you will do a knowledge review with your dive instructor, to make sure you have acquired the very basis of scuba diving. He will answer every question you might have and present you the planning of your day.

Your First Dive in Shallow or Confined Water

After the briefing, it will be time to get on the boat, put on your gear and sail to Paradise Beach or Helicopter island. This is where you’ll get your first dive, in shallow water (around 2 meters deep), to practice the skills needed to dive under the supervision of a PADI instructor or dive master.

During this 40 to 45 minute dive, you’ll have the time to get more familiar with your gear and to moving underwater. You will practice 4 key skills: clearing your regulator by pressing the purge button, clearing your regulator by blowing up, recovering your regulator, clearing your mask.

After your first dive, you’ll have a break of about 1 hour. As you will know thanks to your PADI booklet, having a break between dives is necessary to let your body eliminating nitrogen. This is the perfect time to drink a tea or coffee with some cookies from El Nido Bakery!

The Discovery of Scuba Diving is Most of All a Lot of Fun!

Your second and third dives will be fun dives. You will go to a maximum depth of 12 meters, which is more than enough to observe some of the most interesting species of El Nido’s marine wildlife. You will see all sort of fishes, corals, crustacean, turtles and if you’re very lucky, maybe you’ll encounter a manta ray, a whale shark or a dolphin!

At the end of the day, your instructor will give you a quick debrief and help you fill up your diving log book. You’ll already know then if you fell in love with scuba diving… If so, welcome to the club and be prepared to enjoy many more fun dives, in El Nido and elsewhere!
