Simon is a 12-year old who lives in Saint Albert and wants to go to the Victoria School of the Arts for their state of the art digital media and overall specialized arts programming. Both Simon and his younger brother were accepted for the 2015-2016 but only Simon's acceptance has been revoked. The singular difference between Simon and his brother is that Simon has been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome and thus qualifies as a special needs student. This decision was made on behalf of the School Board because they refuse to provide funding on the grounds that they "feel we can meet the educational needs of the student within our district." This is a clear case of discrimination against a disabled student and the School Act should not be implemented in this way.
