There’s a hidden lighthouse in Northern Kentucky
Monday is National Lighthouse Day. Did you know there's an active lighthouse in the Cincinnati area? Sitting on the banks of the Ohio River in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, is the Cincinnati Water Intake Pier. The castle-like structure is located on the riverfront of Mary Ingles Highway, and is visible when crossing the Combs-Hehl Bridge. The light is displayed atop a short mast next to the chimney of the building. The structure stands in accordance with the pumping station on the Ohio side of the river. It's connected via a 7-foot-diameter tunnel in bedrock below the river. Its primary use is a pump house, delivering water to a purification plant on the Ohio shore.
