The law loves to be very literal. And those whom protect and serve us, are only allowed to do so according to what is the scope of the city code in their jurisdiction. Right now there is an issue of classification that forces  issues of legality and safety for us skaters.

Under current city penal codes, skateboards are classified as toys. We are not motor vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and most certainly not kids playing with toys in the road (maybe doing what we love keeps us young so you might have me on that with skaters starting as groms to older shredders in their 50s still shredding). We dont exist under any meaningful nominclature so my intention with this petition is to either a)set up a framework defining gravity sports in the road, or b)including cyclists and gravity sports into a single category for your local area.

The only way to skate legally is to skate opposing traffic because we are considered pedestrians and are expected . But at speeds exceeding 50 mph that becomes quite tricky to thread the needle. While on the other hand, if you want to skate safe, you need to skate in your lane along with traffic, which is illegal for pedestrians. See the issue we are dealing with?

Although skateboarders have the potential to be more agile, faster & can stop quicker than bicycles, we are still considered only as pedestrians. We are not asking for much. We are asking you for equality & justice. We just want to be able to legally skate and perfect our passion while keeping a concern for our own safety at the utmost importance of our concerns. We just want the same respect we give day in and day out, that you give to people who ride bicycles.

We are all just trying to live happy lives, don't take that from us. When a lands laws uphold no sanctity for a individuals safety, the law of the land holds no wind and will not deserve, nor demand any form of respect from those it will squander. It is up to the individual to sort what is & isn't  beyond there limits. Not a group of people who live daily out of fear!

Before anyone feels this is off base, let me give you a history lesson.
