Nearly two dozen people got a whiff of death on a University Heights block in the Bronx on Wednesday night, August 16, as authorities collected the body parts of a dead person that had been discovered just before 10:30 p.m.

Two men who had been collecting cans on E. 182nd Street and Jerome Ave. made the gruesome discovery at around 8:45 p.m. One of the men, Terry Frazier, 51, told detectives that he had passed by the black garbage bag bearing the remains on several occasions, but didn't think to investigate what might be inside because he didn't hear the sounds of clanking cans or bottles when he initially lifted it. Frazier described having felt something wet and mushy when he pressed the bag.

The bag had been left in a shopping cart outside of a Bonoful Grocery store. The city's medical examiner and law enforcement officials are continuing to comb through the scene for clues that might help their investigation of the discovery.
