Vengeful Wildcats Even CACC Season Series with Griffins

Box Score New Castle, Del. - (10/27/2015) – Getting retribution for a 3-1 (25-23, 26-24, 20-25, 25-19) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to Chestnut Hill College earlier this season (9/23/15), Wilmington University dealt the Griffins a 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-8) league loss in this evening's match. Senior outside hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) found the most success against the Wildcats with seven kills, three digs, and a block, while junior libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) captained the defensive effort with 13 digs.

Wilmington University (19-6, 12-2) gradually pulled away from Chestnut Hill College (9-17, 8-5) in the opening set, which saw the Wildcats hit .515 (20K-3E-33TA) as a team. Unfortunately, it only got worse from there for the Griffins who succumbed to the Wildcats by a 13-point margin in the second set, 25-12, and a 17-point margin in the third set, 25-8.  The Griffins got the first point of the second set off a Wildcat miscue, but from there the home side rattled off 13 straight points to lead 13-1 before senior setter Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) and freshman setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) were able to direct a mid-set rally of successful strikes from Biro and junior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.), 14-8. Regretfully, the Griffin reprise ran short on time as the Wildcats marched on for a 25-12 win. Demoralized, the Griffins provided little resistance in the third set, where the Wildcat lead reached as many as 18 points, 24-6, before a brief delay in a 25-8 final.

Sophomore middle hitter Erin Bistany (Greenbelt, Md.) led the Wildcats with a dozen kills, a dig, and a block assist. On the direction of freshman setter Miranda Shaw (Boston, Va.), they hit .350 (44K-9E-100TA) as a team. She totaled 31 assists in addition to three kills, an ace, and eight digs. Three Wildcats finished in double digit digs with sophomore libero Jenna Brown (Darnestown, Md.) leading the way on a 13-dig performance. Sophomore middle hitter Eile Harris (Tabernacle, N.J.) helped in the defensive effort with six blocks.

Biro's effort was choreographed by Sutton, who supplied 13 assists in addition to a kill, an ace, and a block. Trabosh's defensive hustle was backed by junior outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.), who made 12 digs while scoring four kills.

The women's volleyball team looks to get back on track on Saturday, October 31, when they welcome all the Haunted Halls of Sorgenti Arena for a 1:00 p.m. Trick-or-Treat match versus CACC rival, Post University.
