Folk Week 2016 – plan ahead!

Broadstairs Folk Week is one of the most well respected and longest established folk festivals in the UK. Our holiday let properties get booked up early for the festival dates – by family groups, groups of friends, folk dance groups and of course musicians. Everyone coming to Folk Week needs somewhere to stay and the town does get busy so think of us first if you’re planning to be here for the main event in the Broadstairs calendar.

5th-12th August 2016 are the dates for Folk Week 2016. Bands are yet to be announced but you know you’re going to get a great mix of traditional folk music and also newer sounds from across the British Isles and further afield, with many countries and all of the world’s continents well represented in the programme, while the streets and bars all over town will be at their liveliest with buskers, more dance troops than you can shake a stick at, Hooden Horses and Clarence the Dragon all helping to add to the hubbub.

It’s great fun. Last year Broadstairs Folk Week celebrated its 50th anniversary but the programme is always fresh as a daisy with plenty of variety and something for everyone – will over 70 events a day be enough to keep you entertained do you think?

Get here for the start to enjoy the parade which goes from Pierremont Park right down the High Street all the way to the bandstand where the entertainment then goes on into the evening and for most of the rest of the week!

Peruse the programme when it’s published to see what concerts and workshops tickle your fancy and plan your perfect Folk Week. Very many performances are free to watch but you can save money on the ticketed events by buying a Festival ticket, for the day, weekend or the whole week, which will allow you entrance to any event you fancy, subject only to the space restrictions at each venue.

Contrasting with the traditional Morris Men shown above, here is a fun video of Ushi Baba, captured by Karl Palmer, delighting young and old alike in the garden at the Albion Hotel on the seafront one lively evening in 2015.

If you’ve never done Broadstairs Folk Week before, now’s your chance to get ahead of the game, get your comfortable home from home holiday let accommodation booked up now and you’ve got something really special to look forward to in August. Check availability of our Broadstairs holiday homes on our home page.

Tickets for the Festival will go on sale from 3rd May, or become a Friend of Folk Week to qualify for priority individual bookings for popular events from early February 2016.

Visit the Folk Week site for the very latest information as it’s published.
