Dog rescued after owners move, leave him chained up in yard

DETROIT -- After a month of living on his own, chained up and left to starve, an abandoned dog has been taken in by a Detroit-based non-profit animal shelter.

The shelter, Home Fur-Ever Rescue, reported the rescue in a post to its Facebook page Tuesday, May 24.

"One of our volunteers got a tip about a dog that was left chained up in a backyard," the post reads. "He immediately rushed to check on him and found an emaciated starving dog that hasn't eaten in Lord knows how long.

"Remember folks, we don't have a bad dog problem. We have a bad people problem."

The video embedded at the top of the page is from a WXYZ-TV Channel 7 report.

In the most recent Facebook post concerning Beau, the shelter reports he is safe but needs a foster home that can help nurture him back to health, preferably in a home without young children.

Anyone interested or able to take Beau in is asked to email the shelter at homefurever@comcast.net.

A message to the shelter regarding the original owners was not immediately returned.
