New Delhi: Union Commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman said she had not given any assurance to Jose K Mani who visited her in New Delhi in connection with the rubber farmers issue.
The Union minister said she had only heard about the issues of rubber farmers in Kerala and had not promised anything. The Union govt has planned to allocate Rs 500 cr and has recommended it to the Finance Ministry to ensure support price to the crisis-ridden rubber farmers. Some MPs and other leaders of the state also submitted petitions on this. And like them, Jose K Mani too visited me and held talks, she said.
Jose K Mani and Joy Abraham had met Commerce Minister on Monday.
Jose K Mani said after his meeting with the minister that the Centre has agreed in principle to extend the ban on natural rubber import. The union minister gave no assurance on this.
