A Singin' Affair takes the stage Friday!

We're just days away from our next exciting show! Wayne Pope will perform From Bach to Basie: A Singin' Affair! at the Centene Center on Friday, November 17 at 7 pm. With special guests Ryan Jones on piano, Beth Kenady Pope, vocals, and featuring the Mineral Area Kicks Band under the direction of Dan Schunks, this is going to be a fantastic evening of music that you won't want to miss. During this two-part engagement, you'll hear vocal selections from the great classical masters (Bach, Mozart, Bernstein and others) and a swingin' set of tunes made popular by the stunning combination of Frank Sinatra and Count Basie!

A native of French Village, Wayne is currently Professor of Voice and Director of Main Stage Opera at Western Kentucky University. He can be heard in frequent performance as vocalist and bassist for the WKU Faculty Jazz Trio. Known for his “rich, clear baritone voice”, he has performed throughout the US, Israel and Europe and is well versed in many musical styles. Wayne is a charter member and annual performer at the popular Baby Boomer Reunion Concert, held each summer at the Centene Center.

Presented by Mineral Area Council on the Arts (MACOA) and the City of Farmington.

BAT BOY

Mineral Area College Fine Arts Theater, Park Hills

Based on a story in The Weekly World News, BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL is a musical comedy/horror show about a half boy/half bat creature who is discovered in a cave near Hope Falls, West Virginia. For lack of a better solution, the local sheriff brings Bat Boy to the home of the town veterinarian, Dr. Parker, where he is eventually accepted as a member of the family and taught to act like a "normal" boy. Bat Boy is happy with his new life, but when he naively tries to fit in with the narrow-minded people of Hope Falls, they turn on him. Shelley and Bat Boy, who have fallen in love, run away together from the ignorant townfolk but their happiness is shattered when Meredith arrives and reveals a secret. Soon the entire town hears the shocking story of Bat Boy's unholy origin.
