Tim Williams bounces back in second preseason game; records first career sack

Jasen Vinlove - USA TODAY Sports

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh saw the quick twitch, edge-bending outside linebacker he thought the franchise was getting in Tim Williams on Thursday night.

During its second preseason game versus Miami, Williams showed his explosiveness off the edge and recorded two tackles – including one for loss and a sack.

The former Alabama standout turned in two quarterback hurries and helped Baltimore limit the Dolphins’ rushing attack to 46 yards on 19 carries, as the Ravens earned a 31-7 win.

Before getting selected in the third round of this year’s NFL Draft, Williams was a pass rush specialist for the Crimson Tide in the last two seasons of his tenure.

After collecting 1.5 sacks through his first two years, the Baton Rouge (La.) native had 19.5 sacks combined in his junior and senior seasons. The 6-foot-3, 244-pounder turned nine of the team’s FBS-leading 54 sacks – 16.7 percent – in 2016, which helped Alabama win its third straight conference championship.

Seeing Williams’ resiliency after a tough preseason opener is a good sign for Ravens’ fans.
