The Empty Cages Collective and allies are organising a Women and Trans* Week of Action against the Prison Industrial Complex in April 2016.
This crowd funder is specifically to raise money for the Week of Action’s accessibility. We dont want class, gender, ability, age, race, language or anything else to stop women and trans* people from joining this D.I.Y. Gathering and week of action.
We will be fundraising for; travel expenses, childcare, alternative accommodation for those that need it and whatever else we are going to spend extra money on to make sure that no woman is excluded on the basis of her situation in the world at the moment.
We are dreaming big for this event. We are tired of being harmed and abused and struggling to get any justice for our pain, on our own terms. We will be discussing a world without prisons, where we & our communities can think of how to deal with harm in a way that reduces it rather than perpetuates it – by throwing people in prison and bolstering the cycle of violence. We will also be host to an IPP families meeting and numerous workshops by diverse groups – all in one way or another we feel to be contributing to the dream of a prison free world – where the need for prison is choked out by a society answering to people’s needs and not greed. A world where prisons are obsolete!
In addition to this we will also be looking into how prisons hurt us here and now, particularly women and trans people.
We are only a small collective with limited financial resources. There are no paid staff and this is all D.I.Y. Please give what you can! This is also an opportunity for cis – men to contribute. Help us create a space where we can assert ourselves and participate in our wider movements as equals.
