Spot Prawn Festival gets boiling at False Creek Fisherman's Wharf

I'm sincerely hoping that next weekend's weather will be as good as the last because the Spot Prawn Festival kicks off on Saturday (May 7) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the False Creek Fisherman's Wharf (west of Granville Island).

Now in its fifth year running, this ode to the mighty prawn draws out an impressive lineup of some of Vancouver's top chefs, including John Bishop and Andrea Carlson from Bishop's, Hidekazu Tojo from Tojo's, and Scott Jaegar from The Pear Tree this year. The festival celebrates B.C. spot prawns, which are in season over the next six to eight weeks. During May and June, prawn lovers can purchase live, locally sourced, and sustainable spot prawns right off the boat at the False Creek Fisherman's Wharf each day after 1 p.m.

Tickets to Canada's largest prawn festival and boil are $10 each, and include entrance to the food, wine, and beer tent, as well as a plate of fresh B.C. spot prawns accompanied by dipping sauces and Terra Breads' baked goods. Once inside the tent, you'll also be able to sample wines from Neck of the Woods Winery and Backyard Vineyards, craft beers from R&B Brewing, and coffee from Mogiana. There will also be cooking demos and recipes to take in for adults, and hands-on marine-life exploration led by the Vancouver Aquarium for kids.

Visit the Chefs' Table Society's website for more details and to purchase tickets in advance.
