Carers deliver ‘bedroom tax’ letters to No. 10

A delegation of carers has today delivered over 100 letters to 10 Downing Street from families affected by the ‘spare room’ cuts to Housing Benefit. The letters come from carers across the country who have been hit by cuts to support with housing costs designed to affect people with ‘spare’ rooms. A selection of carers letters have been published here.

In shocking new research launched yesterday, Carers UK revealed that only a minority of carers and disabled people were being supported with the extra costs by Government fund designed to protect disabled people and their families. Those left paying a rent shortfall faced food poverty, arrears and even eviction.

We’re continuing to fight to protect carers and their families. Help us take the fight to Parliament by writing to your MP to ask them to take action.

If you are affected by the bedroom tax, find out how it works and what options may be open to you here

Becoming an employer
Chris and his wife have been caring 24/7 for their son. After being repeatedly let down by an agency, they secured a Direct Payment and are thinking of employing someone directly to provide full time care. What advice would you give?
