The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has drawn up its trimmed list of 20 films vying for Visual Effects Oscar nominations. As usual, the list is peppered with big-budget pics — some of which were massive hits (Deadpool, The Jungle Book, Fantastic Beasts, etc.), some that underperformed (Alice Through the Looking Glass, The BFG, Independence Day: Resurgence) and a few that haven’t been released yet (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Passengers).

Later this month, the Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee will select the 10 films that will advance to nominations voting. Nominations for the 89th Annual Academy Awards will be announced on January 24, and the trophy ceremony is set for for February 26 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
