Around 1,500 people were evacuated from homes, campsites and hotels as the blaze spread 123,550 acres across wetlands and woods.

Spain and neighbouring Portugal are prone to forest fires during the typically dry and hot summer months.

In June, devastating wildfires in Portugal left at least 62 dead with many victims burning to death inside their cars.
