A 31-year-old woman from Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation is dead and a 27-year-old woman from Waywayseecappo First Nation faces impaired driving charges causing death following a crash near Elphinstone on Wednesday afternoon.

As reported in the Brandon Sun yesterday, a two-vehicle collision on Highway 45 approximately five kilometres east of Elphinstone left one dead and sent four to hospital after a car travelling southbound on Road 122 West failed to stop at an intersection and collided with an westbound SUV.

The victim was in the passenger seat of the car, which had four occupants, that failed to stop.

The driver of the car was charged with impaired driving causing death, five counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm and six other traffic related offences. She was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The remaining passengers in the car — a 29-year-old man and 30-year-old woman from Waywayseecappo — were transported to hospital with serious injuries.

A woman driving the SUV and her passenger, a 52-year-old man, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. They were from Keeseekoowenin.

It appears all occupants were wearing seatbelts, according to RCMP.

A RCMP forensic collision reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
