Tributes are flowing for Australian costume designer and four-time Oscar nominee, Janet Patterson, who has died.
Hollywood Reporter first reported the news, with a statement from Patterson's agent in the US, Rocco Hindman. Hindman confirmed the news but declined to provide further detail, citing her family's wish for privacy.
Patterson was renowned for her ability to convey character through clothes in period films. Her work with Jane Campion on The Piano, Portrait of a Lady and Bright Star gained international acclaim, and she collaborated with Gillian Armstrong for both The Last Days of Chez Nous and Oscar and Lucinda. Her recent credits include Thomas Vinterberg's Far from the Madding Crowd.
She was nominated for a best costume Oscar four times - for The Piano, , and Bright Star. She won a BAFTA in 1994 for her work on The Piano. In Australia she won the costume AFI Award for The Piano and Oscar and Lucinda, and both the production design and costume awards for Bright Star.
