Former Boston College President Reverend J. Donald Monan, S.J., Passes Away At 92

All of us at BC Interruption extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, colleagues and campus community of Rev. J. Donald Monan, S.J., 24th president of Boston College, who has passed away at age 92.

As the official news release from BC.edu says, Monan is “credited with saving the University from fiscal crisis and guiding it into a period of then unparalleled financial and academic success.”

Fr. Monan is undoubtedly one of the most transformative and beloved figures in University history. He also played an important role in the history of BC athletics, and was a huge supporter of BC’s sports programs through the years.

His lasting legacy will be his role in transforming Boston College in to a nationally prominent name in higher education. He has also been honored for his commitment to social justice and the Catholic Church.

No funeral arrangements have been announced yet at this time.
