Why this petition matters

Started by Martin Keating

Johnny Keating ( John ) is one of the greatest musicians in the last century and certainly in my opinion the best ever to come out of Scotland, and you don’t need to take my word for it ask Tony Bennet, Burt Bacharach, George Martin to name a few. What people don’t know he was born into a poor family his Father Jock an orphan and Catholic son of Irish immigrants and his mother Esther Aitcheson his mother was a Scottish girl. He was born in Bakehouse Close in the Royal mile and was the Last person born there The Royal Mile is now the most prestigious place in Edinburgh but 1927 it was a Ghetto full of Poorhouses and Poverty, He was self taught and reached the highest heights of Hollywood, Writing for many Hollywood Films and worked with Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jnr, Carmen McRae, The Ted Heath Band, The London Symphony Orchestra, He also wrote an album called Scotland with one the pieces "Hebridean Impressions" being debuted at The Albert Hall with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra John Keating. He also managed to chart at number 14 in The UK charts with "Glory to The Hibees" and Everton still run out to his version of ZCars Johnny Keating is the only musician in history to chart in the genres of Big Band, Jazz, Pop, Classical and Synthesiser and Progressive music something never done in the history of music by anybody, John now 87 and suffering with Dementia. I want to start a petition to have a Blue Plaque put on his birthplace and for Scotland to recognise this musical son of Scotland
