It was the show that gave Bob Marley and the Wailers, the New York Dolls and Tom Petty their British television debuts. Now The Old Grey Whistle Test is returning to our screens, hosted again by “whispering” Bob Harris.

Three decades after it was cancelled by the BBC, the late-night music show is being revived for a live three-hour special featuring musicians who appeared on the original series.

The one-off celebration, to be aired on BBC Four on February 23, will be recorded at Television Centre in west London, the first home of Whistle Test, and will include interviews with former presenters such as Annie Nightingale, Richard Williams and Andy Kershaw.
