From fluffy pancakes with berry compote to kiribath rice cakes with creamy dal, Portland’s vegan brunch game serves far more than the basic veggie hash. That shouldn’t come as a surprise: Portlanders take brunch seriously, and our city’s vibrant food scene has always offered a wide variety of culinary options for vegans and vegetarians.
While brunch goers can always count on at least one simple-yet-comforting animal-free plate at most restaurants and cafes, this map explores Portland’s most memorable vegan brunch menus: tofu Benedicts and fried “chicken” and waffles, Southwest Asian and North African breakfast foods, and takeout-only brunch boxes from one of Portland’s old school music venues. And of course, there are vegan bloody marys and mimosas to wash it all down.
Keep in mind that this map focuses on dedicated brunch menus; many of Portland’s essential vegan restaurants may offer a brunch style dish or two, but don’t have set brunch hours. As always, the restaurants on this map are not ranked, but organized geographically.
The latest CDC guidance for vaccinated diners during the COVID-19 outbreak is here; dining out still carries risks for diners and workers. Please be aware of changing local rules, and check individual restaurant websites for any additional restrictions such as Oregon’s re-instated mask requirement. Find a local vaccination site here.
