Get to know Red Gerard, America's newest Olympic hero

Red Gerard won the first medal of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, coming from behind on his final run in slopestyle to take gold at the age of 17.

Gerard became the youngest American snowboarder to ever win a medal, the youngest American man to win gold at the Winter Games since 1928, and the first athlete born after the turn of the millennium to claim a medal at the Winter Olympics.

Gerard, originally from Rocky River, Ohio, explained how important snowboarding is to his family in this awesome video shot prior to the Olympics.
