Don Featherstone, the artist known for creating one of the most popular American lawn items of all-time, passed away yesterday at age 79.

Featherstone, born in Worcester, MA, graduated from the school of the Worcester Art Museum in 1957. That same year Don invented the the pink plastic flamingo while designing three-dimensional animals for Union Products.

Featherstone and his wife Nancy lived in Fitchburg, MA. The eclectic pair sparked news recently because they have been famouslydressing alike (as in identical) for over 35 years. And fittingly, they had 57 pink flamingos in their front yard.
