Tributes have been paid to a leading transgender businesswoman killed in a tragic tractor crash.

Stephanie Booth, 70, was the face and founder of the Albany Clinic in Prestwich, which gives specialist medical advice and guidance to transsexuals.

She was found dead by her husband David, 72, on Sunday night at her farm in Denbighshire, North Wales.

It’s understood she had been mowing one of their fields ready to put sheep on, when the tractor rolled down a bank and overturned.

Stephanie went by the name Keith Hull until she underwent a sex change in 1983, aged 37.

She met husband David after moving to Manchester, and placing an advert for business backers in the Manchester Evening News.

Several years ago, the couple gave up the city life to move to North Wales, yet Stephanie remained a leading figure in the business world.

In 2011, she tried to buy Wrexham AFC, but pulled out of the bid, claiming to have received death threats.

She also owned a number of hotels and other businesses, such as the Manchester-based Transformation Shops, and featured in the BBC television fly-on-the-wall series Hotel Stephanie.

Her biography, published in 1991, was called “A girl in a Million”

Her heartbroken husband said yesterday: “That’s exactly what she was to me, I can’t believe she has gone.”

Karen Richards posted on Facebook: “Stephanie was the founder of transformation, which is where I, like many others began my journey to my true self, there I learnt that my condition couldn’t be denied, and my destiny was to be the person I became.”

Stephen Reeves said: “RIP Stephanie Booth, so so sad you lived your life as you wanted to, you were a hard worker and a leading light, go rule the clouds the transgender community owe you so much xxx.”

Wills Williams wrote: “RIP Stephanie Booth. Owe a lot to that woman for the opportunities she gave me as a young man! Won’t be forgotten and a big loss to the area. My thoughts are with all the family.”

Already her page on Wikipedia says: “On the evening of Sunday, September 18 2016 Stephanie passed away following an accident at the farm she loved in North Wales. Stephanie was 70 years old and is survived by her loving husband David.”

A North Wales Police spokeswoman said: “Emergency services were called shortly after 8pm. Sadly the female driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Health and Safety Executive and the coroner have been informed.”
