(*Music starts at 0:10.*) Kagawa (born 1947) is one of Japan's great folk singers, and this song, "Kyookun I" (Lesson One), is one of the world's greatest anti-war songs. Kagawa debuted with this song at the 2nd Nakatsugawa Folk Jamboree (1970). The song's rhetoric works off gender expectations, and with allusions to the propaganda of WW II. Brilliant. The translation is NOT a literal one, but rather meant capture the sense of the original in "sing-able" English. Any musicians out there want to try it?
