1890 - Ho Chi Minh was born in the village of Hoang Tru.
1964 - The U.S. Air Force inititiated Operation Yankee Team which began low-altitude reconnaissance flights over southern Vietnam.
1970 - The U.S. State Department said that the previous day's offensive in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) was "purely a defensive measure" to fight a "considerable buildup of North Vietnam troops."
1972 - South Vietnamese forces fought to within two miles of An Loc.
