A man suspected of setting his home on fire, as well as a neighbor’s home, is being held on attempted second-degree murder, among other charges, and about a dozen bombs have been found by investigators in the burned mobile home.

Steven Truetken is being held at the Adams County jail, according to the Federal Heights Police Department.

A search warrant was served on his residence, 2033 Moselle St., and the Adams County Bomb Unit used a robot to find, retrieve and dismantle numerous explosive devices, police said Thursday.

Truetken was taken into custody Wednesday night after firefighters and police responded to his Federal Heights home.

The bomb unit was still working at the scene Thursday, and additional explosives have been spotted. Those devices still must be rendered safe, police said.

Members of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms are supporting the investigation.

Nearby residents were evacuated Wednesday night as a safety precaution. Police describe the scene as “stable,” but access to the street is restricted. Some residents have been allowed back into their homes, and the remaining evacuated residents should be back by the end of the day Thursday, police said.

The home, a crime scene, will remain secured overnight, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

Truetken, who has a lengthy arrest record in Colorado, told investigators Wednesday that he deliberately started the fire. No one was injured in the incident.

Further details on the construction of the devices or a motive in the case were not released.
