Pluto may finally have a replacement: a newly-discovered planet researchers believe they’ve found in the far reaches of our solar system.
But this celestial find, dubbed “Planet 9,” is still missing something very important: a real name.
The researchers who spotted the planet would like to see it called “George” after King George III, in a nod to a British astronomer who discovered Uranus and had hoped to name it Georgium Sidus (the Georgian Planet). However, it’s unclear that the public would embrace “George,” which lacks the whimsy of our original ninth planet. (Pluto was named by an 11-year-old girl.)
