St. George’s, Grenada – Monday 5th March, 2018.

The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) with technical assistance of the Meteorological Office athe Maurice Bishop International Airport is monitoring a mid-latitude cyclone and an associated cold front in the Northern Atlantic. The cold front is now located across Leeward Islands and has produced some northerly swells in the Caribbean Sea affecting the islands of the Eastern Caribbean.

Local sea conditions have deteriorated with waves as high as 10ft in open waters with northerly swells. A marine advisory is in effect therefore all mariner and people with coastal interest are asked to exercise extreme caution especially along the west coast.

Additionally the frontal system is producing unstable conditions for most of the Windward Islands therefore cloudy to overcast conditions with showers and isolated thunder showers can be expected for the next 12 hours.

A flood Advisory has been issued as flooding can occur in areas so prone. Landslides are also possible.

NaDMA together with the Meteorological office will continue to provide pertinent information in a timely and efficient manner!
