Whatever God Has Promised Us, it Will Come to Pass

January 8, 2011

“ 1Now the LORD was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised. 2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.” (Genesis 21:1-2) NIV

Many of us are waiting for a word spoken in our lives some years ago to step into the dimension of our reality. We find ourselves confused and discouraged at times as the promise is nowhere to be found. Abraham and Sarah were made an unbelievable promise by the All Mighty; a promise so absurd and ridiculous that both, Sarah and Abraham laughed about it. God tells Abraham to look at the sky and count the stars as that is how large the nation that will be birthed out of his wife will be. We must take into consideration that by the time Abraham and Sarah came into the picture, God had already limited the life expectancy to one hundred and twenty years. They were very old! To add to the drama, Sarah was not able to have children even in the times of her youth, so for her to believe that she could have children at such an age was hard to believe. The desire to have a baby was always there; but all the logical reasons were not. Our desire to do what God has called us to do may be there, but we have a million reasons to disqualify ourselves and doubt God’s Word.

The waiting was killing Sarah! She could not wait anymore! The result of her anxiety produced an Ishmael. Have you ever been there? A place where you try to help God with what He promised you? However, even after such a mess-up; a mess-up so bad that even today we still suffer the ramifications of it; God’s promise was not compromised. Today the word for you and for me is to trust God in spite of what our eyes can and cannot see. Why should we have such an assurance? Simple…because whatever God has promised us will come to pass!

  1. The perpetual challenge is to keep believing! God’s promises may be fulfilled exactly as you expected, and in most cases they may also affect other parts of your life that you could not have previously imagined, in a healthy, positive way!

It is not uncommon, occasionally, to discover that certain desires never known, still come to pass. They are bonuses from God! There are also others that deliver much more than one could have ever believed or anticipated!

The full validity of any desire is not based on how easy its realization may be. Even when it may appear out of human reach, one should not be intimidated so as to stop believing. Some come to fruition rather swiftly, while others require a lifetime for full achievement. Setbacks shall inevitably accompany them in their course, but if God is truly in them their fulfillment is guaranteed!

Whenever a desire is shattered before becoming reality, don’t stop trusting. Instead, trust a new desire. Make it more aligned with God’s perfect will, which He can readily reveal to you in His Word, as you diligently seek His assistance! Life entails a series of revisions and adjustments so that we may more effectively harmonize with God’s unique design for each of us every step of the way.

As author Wayne Cordeiro wisely reflects, “God-sized dreams don’t come pre-assembled. They come in kit form. I start with what I have. If God sees me as faithful with even a little, then He will add more.” In making your desires your destiny, imitate King David in his affirmation to the Almighty, “I delight to do your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart” (Psalm 40:8). With such outlook and determination, you may confidently anticipate your destiny from your desires!
