CATERPILLAR cakes may be the staple at most children’s (and many adults') birthday parties, but often cannot be enjoyed by those on restricted diets.

However, Asda have just launched a brand new ‘free from’ chocolate caterpillar so that everyone can have a slice.

Aptly named ‘Frieda’ the ‘Free From Caterpillar’, the delicious looking cake is made from chocolate sponge, and is filled with a “rich, frosted filling”.

Specialised dietary treats can occasionally be expensive, but Frieda costs just £6.25 - which is only 25p more than Asda’s ‘traditional’ Bonnie and Clyde caterpillar cakes, so it won’t break the bank.

Even if you are not on a gluten-free diet, the dessert looks pretty tasty, and is decorated with sweets and sprinkles.

With a cheeky grinning face and bright orange feet, it looks like the perfect centrepiece at any children’s party.

If you or your guests are vegan however, the cake unfortunately should still be avoided.

Listed on the ingredients, Frieda actually contains egg, as they are not counted as ‘dairy’ in the same way that milk is.

The cake is not available in all Asda stores yet, but they have helpfully provided a list of where you can find it, if you're planning on making a special journey.

You can also pick it up online if you're doing a shop ahead of the big day, which may be the best way to avoid disappointment.

So why not grab a slice of the action and bring Frieda, Bonnie, and Clyde to your next birthday party?
