Amtrak train derails, hangs over I-5 in Washington; injuries and deaths reported

An Amtrak Cascades train derailed Monday morning in Washington and is hanging over Interstate 5.

KIRO-TV reports the high-speed train left from Tacoma and derailed near Lacey. Injuries and deaths have been reported, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department said, citing preliminary information.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee tweeted thanks to first responders.

"We're praying for everyone on board the train, and ask everyone to hold them in your thoughts," he said.

He advised commuters to stay away, referring to the derailment as "an ongoing and serious situation."
