This is the moment Ant McPartlin leaves the wreckage of his car, looking shaken and unsteady on his feet, following the three-vehicle smash which led to his arrest, in exclusive footage obtained by the MailOnline.

The TV presenter appears dazed as he climbs out of his £26,000 John Cooper black Mini, which smashed into two other cars and injured a three-year-old girl.

The incident in Richmond, west London, saw McPartlin arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after failing a breathalyser test.

This afternoon his agent revealed that Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway – the ITV show he co-hosts with lifelong friend Declan Donnelly - is cancelled so McPartlin can 'check into rehab'.

The video shows a passer-by approach and speak to the startled McPartlin. The telly favourite appears to nod as he stumbles and holds on to his car door.

The 42-year-old looks down at the damage to the front of his car, before he walks out. Both front seat airbags appear to have been triggered by the impact of the crash. Other pedestrians look on in shock after witnessing the smash, which involved the celebrity's black Mini, a green Mini and a maroon BMW.

McPartlin, who is worth £60million, spent most of the night in police custody, before he was released under investigation and returned home at 3am today.

The star has endured a troublesome year with his battle with painkillers addiction and the breakdown of his marriage to Lisa Armstrong.

A statement on behalf of Ant & Dec confirmed McPartlin was taking a break from his on-screen duties, where he hosts on ITV with Declan Donnelly.

It said: 'Ant has decided to go back into treatment and step down from his current TV commitments.

'He has spoken with Dec and ITV today and asked for time off for the foreseeable future. As such "Saturday Night Takeaway" will not be going ahead this Saturday.'

An ITV spokesman said: 'ITV has taken a joint decision with Ant and Dec's team not to broadcast Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend.

'We will be reviewing options for the last two episodes of the series (March 31 and April 7) which would not feature Ant who is taking time off to seek treatment. We very much hope that he gets the help that he needs.'

A witness to the crash told MailOnline: 'There were two cars travelling along Lower Richmond road - a green Mini Cooper and an X5 which was about much further back.

'A black Mini Cooper shot round the corner but instead of turning left went straight across the road and smashed into the green Mini.

'It was a bad crash but the black Mini Cooper still travelled on and crashed into the BMW behind which had done an emergency brake. There was a woman and her young son in there.

'Airbags deployed in the black Mini and a lady came out of the passenger seat. No one came out of the driver seat initially.

A witness told MailOnline: People were checking that everyone was alright. There was a lot of confusion cos the horn remained blaring on the car for ages. Everyone was dazed by it all'

'The lady in the BMW came out but her son stayed in the car. The family in the Mini Cooper also came out and an Asian lady ran and screamed at the driver of the black Mini who was still inside. A passerby was asking her to calm down and checked on everyone to see if everyone was OK.

'People were checking that everyone was alright. There was a lot of confusion cos the horn remained blaring on the car for ages. Everyone was dazed by it all.

'When the driver came out, he just shouted intermittently at his mother but didn't speak to anyone else until the police arrived shortly. There were two dogs in the Mini.'

Just seconds before the crash, McPartlin was seen driving his John Cooper special edition car along Sheen Lane, after taking his dog for a walk in Richmond Park, southwest London, just before 4pm yesterday.

CCTV footage captured the TV presenter just seconds before he reached a mini roundabout on Lower Richmond Road and crashed into a green Mini and maroon BMW - injuring a three-year-old girl.

The video emerged shortly after his mother, Christine Woodhall, was seen for the first time, leaving his London home, after the arrest.

McPartlin failed a roadside breathalyser test - just 20 hours after appearing live on TV hosting Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. He was arrested by police and spent 10 hours in custody.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the TV presenter, who has had a troublesome year with an addiction to painkillers and the breakdown of his marriage, had been released 'under investigation'.

He was spotted arriving home just before 3am this morning, following his arrest.

His mother, Ms Woodhall, who is believed to have moved in with her son when the troubled star was struggling with painkillers, was seen today getting into the back of a black Mercedes van which parked as near to the house in Chiswick, west London, as possible.

A driver was seen removing several bags from the boot before Ms Woodhall, looking tired and shaken, jumped in the back before she was whisked away.

The troubled television personality allegedly crashed his black Mini after losing control of his vehicle on a roundabout, which veered into the opposite side of the road and collided with a green Mini, which had a young girl and couple inside.

Celebrity publicist Simon Jones visited the home of McPartlin today. Jones, who is known to represent Little Mix, One Direction stars and McFly, spent around 90 minutes at the home for crisis talks.

He arrived in a Range Rover with two of his team members and refused to answer questions about how McPartlin was.

Several hours earlier an Audi A5 arrived at the car and a suited man spent around 30 minutes in the home.

The I'm A Celebrity star has not left the £2million house since arriving home at 2.40am after spending ten hours in police custody.

Witnesses described McPartlin as being 'furious' when he got out of the car and he was seen shouting at his mother, Christine.

The incident sparked a number of fans to call for him to be axed for this weekend's Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway - before the former Byker Grove star announced earlier today that he was temporarily stepping down.

But Stanley Johnson, former politician and father of foreign secretary Boris, said McPartlin 'will come roaring back'.

Speaking to ITV News tonight, he added: 'He already, I think, has lots and lots of shows - I think they [Ant and Dec] have been TV personality of the year for, like, 12 or 13 years.

'They will come roaring back and all our hearts go out, of course, to anybody who suffered in this incident in West London.'

The crash is the latest in what has been a troublesome year for the telly favourite, after he went to rehab for his painkiller addiction and the breakup of his marriage to Lisa Armstrong.

Saturday Night Takeaway is CANCELLED so Ant McPartlin can check back into rehab after arrest

Saturday Night Takeaway has been pulled from TV schedules this week following Ant McPartlin's arrest on suspicion of drink driving.

The decision could spell the end of the long-running TV duo's stellar career on the nation's TV screens.

McPartlin's publicist said in a statement: 'Ant has decided to go back into treatment and step down from his current TV commitments.

Ant (pictured with Dec) presents Saturday Night Takeaway and fans are today divided over whether ITV should back the star following his arrest

Ant McPartlin presents the show with co-host Dec Donnelly (pictured on Saturday night) and was arrested on Sunday morning

'He has spoken with Dec and ITV today and asked for time off for the foreseeable future. As such Saturday Night Takeaway will not be going ahead this Saturday.'

The crash and Ant's ensuing absence will also be a disaster for Dec Donnelly, who will struggle to appear on TV without his long-time partner.

Fans went online this afternoon to express their worries for the future of the show and others which Ant and Dec present.

Saturday Night Takeaway is sponsored by Suzuki in a £20million deal and Ant and sidekick Dec are also paid to appear in adverts for the car maker.

But marketing bosses at the Japanese motor giant will be furious that troubled Ant was involved in the crash after allegedly being over the drink drive limit.

Ant also appears in adverts for gambling firm 32Red and was recently the face of supermarket chain Morrisons with Dec in a multi-million deal.

But after a girl was injured in Sunday's smash his once squeaky-clean image – that has allowed him to amass a £60million fortune – is now in tatters.

The firms could decide to pull the plug on future deals if he goes on to be convicted of drink driving and the smash has led fans to demand he be given the boot from the ITV1 show until the conclusion of legal proceedings.

Ant is also an ambassador for a host of charities – including the Prince's Trust, ChildLine, the NSPCC. And he is a patron of Cash for Kids and the Children's Heart Unit Fund.

Some fans want Stephen Mulhern – who also appears on the show – to partner Dec as co-host.

Others suggested that Scarlett Moffatt could end up replacing Ant if he does not appear on Saturday.

Amy Cassie, 23, who helped McPartlin's mother get out of the car, told the Daily Mirror: 'Ant seemed furious after crashing the car and was shouting at his mum who was also in the car. She was trying to get him to calm down.

'The couple in the green Mini were really shaken up and their child, who was a girl, could only have been about three years old.

'Ant and his mum didn't seem to have any injuries, but the mum in the green car had split her lip and the side of her face was very red.'

After the immediate impact of the crash, McPartlin's Mini then spun around and hit a maroon BMW before eventually coming to a halt on the opposite side of the road.

His mother Christine was in the car at the time and the pair are thought to have been heading home after walking his dog, a chocolate Labrador called Hurley.

Charges and penalties Ant McPartlin could face after crash

If Anthony McPartlin is charged and found guilty of driving while unfit through drink or drugs the maximum sentence he could receive is six months and a £5,000 fine and at least a two-year ban from the roads.

Dangerous driving carries a sentence of up to five year and a minimum two-year driving ban.

Careless and inconsiderate driving alone has a £5,000 fine and three to nine penalty points.

The collision comes after a tumultuous few months for the I'm A Celeb star, who booked himself into a rehab clinic last year after becoming hooked on painkillers and is now divorcing his wife Lisa Armstrong.

The divorce from his wife of 11 years is believed to be costing the star around £30m of his estimated £60m fortune.

But Armstrong has said she is 'not interested' in talking about her former husband in the wake of his arrest.

She spoke over the intercom of the plush four-bedroom house in Chiswick, west London, which she used to share with Ant before their divorce announcement.

Asked this afternoon whether she would discuss the incident, Lisa said: 'I'm sorry, I'm not interested.'

There was also no answer at the intercom of the home of Ant's telly partner Declan Donnelly, who lives in a similar detached house just two doors away.

Neighbours, meanwhile, refused to talk about the illustrious figures living in their area.

Just hours before the collision, Ant had been hosting his ITV show 'Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway' with co-host Declan Donnelly.

A witness said Ant was 'argumentative' with a female police officer as she arrested him on suspicion of drink-driving.

Jake Spencer said Ant rowed with officers as they tried to put him in the police car following the incident.

On Sunday afternoon he had walked his dog, Hurley, with his mother, Christine, near Richmond Park - a place he often likes to take his pooch for a stroll.

It was at 4pm that day, on his way back from walking with Christine and Hurley, that things took a dramatic turn for the worse.

The troubled television personality allegedly crashed his black Mini after losing control of his vehicle on a roundabout, which veered into the opposite side of the road and collided with a green Mini, which had a young girl and couple inside.

After the immdediate impact of the crash, McPartlin's Mini then spun around and hit a maroon BMW before eventually coming to a halt on the opposite side of the road.

Fellow TV star Lorraine Kelly backs Ant McPartlin and says he WILL present Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend

Television presenter Lorraine Kelly today said that Ant McPartlin will be on Saturday Night Takeaway this weekend despite getting arrested.

McPartlin, 42, failed a breathalyser test in south west London on Sunday afternoon and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

Fans of the show were today divided over whether ITV should keep him on the show but Ms Kelly was quick to back him.

Speaking on her show on ITV today, she said she was certain he will be presenting the show alongside his co-host Dec Donnelly.

She said: 'Poor guy, he will be there on Saturday night, a lot of people are speculating he won't be there for Saturday Night Takeaway. He will.

'Unless there's more to it than we all think, I'd be very surprised, he's such a worker.

'But I would be astounded - because he's such a professional - if he wasn't there.'

'Ant looked in a right state and was acting argumentatively towards a policewoman,' he told The Sun. 'I couldn't believe it when I saw who it was.

'The woman was trying to arrest him and get him in the police car but he clearly wasn't having it. '

Motorcyclist Nicholas McNicol told The Sun: 'I came on the scene moments after it happened and he was being escorted to the police car to be put in the back.

'Everyone was in a state of shock at who it was.

'I was driving past very slowly and Ant looked straight at me and I thought he looked tired. I was only about 3ft from him.'

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: 'Police in Richmond were called to Lower Richmond Road, SW14 at 15:59hrs on Sunday, 18 March following reports of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles.

'Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended.

'A number of individuals were treated at the scene for minor injuries only. A child passenger from one of the cars has been taken to hospital for a check up as a precaution.'

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman confirmed he has since been released 'under investigation'.

'His eyes looked very heavy and he had a solemn face — it looked like his world had just ended.

'He was the only one being put in a police car. One of the Minis had obviously come straight across the road because it was facing the wrong way.'

Other witnesses described hearing a 'huge bang' which they mistook for a train crash.

One said: 'As soon as I opened my front door I heard the horn of a car blaring non-stop and ran towards the sound.

'Near a bend in the road there were two badly damaged Minis which looked as though they'd collided and a BMW X5 — and people wandering around in shock.

'A family had been in the green Mini which had its front end completely smashed in.'

The witness added that a little girl was crying and that her mother was trying to calm her down.

They described Ant as looking 'awful' and 'unsteady on his feet' following the collision, which had left his Mini in a 'wreck'.
