Making tracks | footprints in the snow
An overdue Valentine message and music update to friends and fans. It remains unusually cold here on the Ile de France. A show-stopping snowfall, (cars scattered on the side of the road, grocery stores emptied of supplies), was wholly gorgeous from the kitchen window. In my studio, I have been laying down tracks, working with Sacramento, California producer Pepe Espada, on a next album, tentatively called “Becoming.” It is comprised of songs I performed up and down the west coast from Seattle to San Diego in spring 2017, and New York to Maine in Fall 2017, plus a few new ones, hatching right now. This summer I’ll be heading to Italy for a few shows in June, then back to the California Bay Area, to put the final touches on our recording, and a handful of performances.

I hope your day is filled with Xs and Os.

#morningrun
I run the same loops over and over again, in my little village, across the footbridge to the other side of the Seine, and around the forest. I try to find something beautiful or at least, new, on each round. Often I post #morningrun photos. Follow my footsteps on instagram
Studio Sessions | Lyrics stripped of the song
Here are a few verses and the chorus from "Joan of Arc"

Press your ear against the wall.
Catch yourself, if you fall,
repeating back
things you heard.

Take it home, make your bed,
think it through, find your pen.

The mountain facing you is just the
part you figured out.

Oh oh oh --just what are you here for?

Smart as a whip, you save for yourself,
and haphazard passengers, and everyone else.

Dressed to the teeth, protecting me,
and heaven knows, everyone else.

Travel magazine two page
spread you soon escape.
Lights flicker on and off,
excuses you made.

Pour the words from the page.
Mix another drink.
Draw lines between the coasts
to see just where you'll sink.

Look for this song on "Becoming" to be released later this year.

Wine Tasting
Wine is similar to color, in that it is not a solid. It changes as the environment shifts, and as our brain settles in to the experience. If someone says "It smells earthy, like cherries, like shoes, vanilla, cherry, metallic." You will experience all of it, one by one, as the descriptive words are offered. For me anyway. Describe what you taste, and I'll taste it too. As an artist, this is why the influences I keep on hand is so important. Literature, poetry, painting, photography, as well as music, all influences the work I do.
Author | Joan Didion
She nailed it with every single word, describing head on our complex, sick, worthy, true, American landscape. I have a few of her books on my stack of books, and there is so much more.
St. Vincent | Songwriter and Performer
Annie Clark is completely original, experimental and at the same time approachable. Her guitar playing is expert and all her own, and her lyrics are equally worthy. This is a river that runs deep (nun mode)
Artist and Poet | Sheila Lanham
I met Sheila in Florence, Italy in the 80s, where we were both painting and writing. We had a few adventures, inadvertently hung out with Angelina Joli, and the Psychedelic Furs, while she slowly recounted her young life with Larry Rivers. She is passionate, poignant, and driven. She founded U.S. Poets in Mexico, lives in New York, observes, writes and paints. Always impressive.

Proceed, openhearted!
