India & China, the hottest places in the world for Home Health Care

Interestingly, the growth in the numbers of economy, population, and the age of population will be simultaneous. All these 3 key factors will be responsible to create demand for home health care services; although, the high cost of hospital treatment will also play a major role.

Total population of India, China, and the world is 1.32, 1.38, and 7.6 billion respectively. Amazingly, both the countries shelter more than one third of world population. Almost 70% population of both India and China is aged between 0-45 years. Currently, both have the highest number and the highest ratio of young population in the world. According to the United Nations Population Division-2011, the Indian 60+ population is expected to grow from 8% of the population in 2010 to 19% by 2050. In more tangible terms, India is expected to have more than 300 million people over the age of 60 by 2050, the size of the entire U.S. population in 2010! Elder people have more chronic health conditions as: Muscular Weakness, Osteoarthritis, Diabetes, Hypertension, COPD, etc. Most of them complaint of respiratory or/and cardiovascular problems. All of such medical conditions create need for single or multiple home health care services or/and equipment on a regular basis.

Healthcare is always one of the largest and the fastest growing industries in the world. Also, India and China are not different from this. The fastest GDP growth, increasing employment rate, and growing purchasing power will result in the fastest expansion of middle and upper middle class population. Interestingly, the growth in the numbers of economy, population, and the age of population will be simultaneous. All these 3 key factors will be responsible to create demand for home health care services; although, the high cost of hospital treatment will also play a major role. The geriatric care will be the largest segment of all home health care business. Which will be engaged in long term nursing assistant services, routine doctor visits, nursing visits, physiotherapist visits, and psychologist visits; routine lab and ECG tests; demand for different equipment on rent and sales.

Respiratory and cardiovascular diseases are more prevalent in old age population. Moreover, the India and China are the countries where the highest rate of increase in pollution is being reported. Therefore, the bad pollution will also automatically be responsible for the sharp growth in respiratory diseases. All these conditions will boost demand for more respiratory equipment mainly oxygen machines, CPAPs, BiPAPs, air purifiers, etc. Respiratory diseases mostly give rise to cardiovascular diseases, then kidney and brain problems, eventually creating more demand for multiple home health care services and equipment.

India and China are already recognized as the diabetes capitals of the world. As per International Diabetes Federation, India will have 142 million and China will have 109 million diabetic populations approximately, till 2035. As per WHO, diabetes is the major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke, and lower limb amputation, in the world. One can imagine how huge demand will be created for home health care services for such a huge diabetic population in these two countries. A diabetic patient regularly requires comprehensive lab tests, routine doctor visits, nursing care, etc. If the disease gets complicated then lot of services require for a very long period of time. Stroke is very common complication of diabetes and the patient is very difficult to handle. Rehabilitation of stroke patients is very long term process; it creates demand for lot of home health care services, nursing care, physiotherapy, need of multiple equipment, speech therapists, etc.

Few organizations have already entered in Indian home healthcare domain. Portea is leading it with a wide range of services, wide network and continuous improvement in the quality of services; while others are Nightingales, Philips, Healthcare at home, India home healthcare, Care24, Apollo home healthcare, Zoctr, Arooj, Healers at home, Vatsalya, and many more about to enter. The organizations having vision of making products as per exact need of patients, hospitals and doctors with best quality and reasonable price can win the race in long term. Because healthcare service without best quality is unimaginable.

This article is a for cast of the future age and health issues.Increase in economy through industrialisation can cope with the increase in heath facilities. One major issue of India is the high birth rate ....no serious plan is there to arrest the population explosion. You are right by 2050 300 million people will be above 60 years..No old homes with nursing cares have been planned. Another major issue of India is the religious divide and a great taboo of cow worship ...atrocities in Kashmir and on Muslims and minorities in other parts of India. Educational system be revolutionised on Scientific basis to bring all the segments of population on one page. Dr.Syed overall the article is a real practical aspect of the future health issues ...I appreciate your views expressed in this Great article.
